What is dengue fever ?
Acute- Febrile and Viral disease of sudden onset .
The virus is transmitted by Aedes mosquito
Who can get it?
Persons who have low immunity level
Persons who are bitten by an infected aedes mosquitos
How is it contracted?
- Not from person to person
- Aedes mosquito- white stripped mosquito which feed in day time.
- Bites an already infected person and then goes and bites a healthy person.
- Virus enters healthy man- causes symptoms --Person- mosquito- another person
Symptoms
- After being bitten by mosquito – 3-7days incubation period
- Chills and Fever- sudden onset – rises high -104
- Headache with retro orbital pain < moving eye
- Muscle and joint pain sever
- Rash- spreads from extremities to cover entire body except face , palm and soles may be bright red and swollen
- Lymph glands swollen
- Low Bp and Bradycardia
- Hemorrhage - Esp gums
Prevention
- Infected people must be under mosquito net until the fever is no longer recurring
- Water stagnation to be prevented- ( throw / or put few drops kerosene)
- Mosquito spray /coils and repellents in home
- Wear long sleeves dress, and full pants.
- Stay indoors two hours after sunrise and two hrs before sunset. (because the mosquito is a day time bitter and peak periods is around sunrise and sunset.

Because it is of virus origin – no specific antibiotic or medicine.
